So the reason you're here, The how to articles on Model Railroading, right?

Well here's a simple introduction to new users of the site.

RULES:
1. Registration is required for submitting articles, but unregistered users can view online articles and links.
2. Pictures  We'd like pictures to aid in using your how-to.  Registering allows for use of our built in upload feature, or you can host them else where.
3. Folders  The articles section is broken down by scale.  Also available is a "non scale specific" folder, place articles here that can be used across scales.  Please place in the appropriate folder.
4. Language  This is an ENGLISH based website.  Please refrain from using other languages.  Please use proper English, and refrain from using smilies within the article to be posted.  Also please refrain from using "bad words" as it makes the article look unprofessional.
5. Format  There is no specific format, but please format it in a way that it is easily followed.  Refer to the sample articles for ideas on how to format it.

How to: Article Posts (for this how to we'll use Ballasting HO track as the article):
1. Register or Login.
2. Select Submit Article in the menu to the left
3. Select Submit Article in the center of the page
4. Heading, this is name of your article, "How to Ballast HO scale track"
5. Article Summary, is a paraphrasing, "I show you how I ballast HO scale track, in # steps"
6. Summary, Longer version of the Article Summary, can NOT be left blank, in our case it will be the object of our article, "Step 1, Spreading Ballast; Step 2, Shaping ballast; ..."
7. The blank text box will become the Article.  Here you'd go into full explanation of your how-to.  Pictures can be added here.  Preferred method would be:

"Step 1, Spreading ballast:
text... text... text...
(picture of spreading ballast)

Step 2..."

8. Tools & Materials list, not a requirement, but it would help out greatly so users won't have to read the article to know what they need.
9. Section, Choose the Scale it relates to.
10. Saving for PDF, I strongly suggest you copy the boxes in order into your favorite word processor (Open Office is what I use) at this time.  Save it to your Hard Drive before you continue.  This is to ensure that you will not loose anything if the site crashes.  It also allows you to upload the text document so that I can convert it to a PDF.
11. Submitting, review your article, ensure that all text boxes are filled, and the section is selected.  Click Preview, check it over, and to make sure all formatting works.  Lastly, click Submit, and you're done.  If there is an error you will be contacted, and if you'd like to update it, post it in the forum.  You can also request to update/add to another user's article, if the moderators deem it fit, they'll add it, if not you will be asked to submit it in the form of a NEW article.

12. Review... Yes the moderators will review the article and approve or deny it.

Thanks for reading the Rules & How-to, now get posting!
