A new painting product/method for modeling rusty bridges
|
Step 1. Acquire Modern Masters Metal Effects Iron Paint and Rust Activator in the faux finish area of your local paint store. Step 2. Prepare your bridge model for priming and painting by cleaning off any dust or oily fingerprints. Step 3. Apply primer to your bridge with a spray can or an air brush, making sure all exposed surfaces are covered. Let dry. Step 4. Using a 50/50 mix of Iron Paint and water, apply the thinned Iron Paint to your bridge with an air brush. Allow to dry completely. At this point, the paint will be dark gray. Step 5. Apply the Rust Activator, making sure you have some paper towels available to sop up excess Activator that will tend to collect in the corners and horizontal surfaces of your bridge. Removing the excess will create a more even finish. Step 6. Allow the Rust Activator to dry, which will take a little while. Additional applications may be made to increase the rust effect. Step 7. Install bridge on your layout and add appropriate weathering to the supporting abutments or piers. Enjoy!
